Adult Basic Life Support (BLS)

Course Outcome

  • Describe risks to the rescuer/chain of survival and medical response procedure/safe approach.

  • Describe examples of early indicators of deteriorating health.

  • Demonstrate assessment of response level (AVPU).

  • Demonstrate assessment of ABCDE.

  • Demonstrate basic airway management.

  • Demonstrates effective chest compression.

  • Demonstrate effective ventilation via face shield and or rescue mask.

  • Describes the recovery position.

  • Describes how to deal with choking.

Summary

  • This session follows the Resuscitation Council (UK) 2015 guidelines, and is run over ½ x day and requires an annual update. It includes;

  • The role of CPR and chain of survival.

  • Causes of Cardio-Respiratory Arrest.

  • Risks to the rescuer and assessment of the casualty.

  • Response procedure and practical skills.

Target Audience

Any staff that through risk assessment indicates that their role or environment where they work requires them to undertake Basic Life Support.

Minimum 4

Application Procedure

  • Agree attendance with manager.

  • Choose appropriate date.

  • NFF to check availability and book a place.

Evaluation

Participants will be assessed by tutor in practical skills relating to course outcomes. The session will be assessed by written evaluation. Staff information will be kept on a central database for recording and reporting purposes adhering to data protection protocols.
